The TLG® Online Canon of Greek Authors and Works
http://www.tlg.uci.edu/search/img/topbar4.gif

The TLG® Canon of Authors and Works is a searchable database and a bibliographic guide to the authors and works included in the TLG® Digital Library. It provides biographical information about each author (i.e. date by century and epithets that identify the place of birth or literary activity and the genre each author is associated with). Each author is identified by a four-digit number; each work is identified by a three-digit number. For example, Homer is author 0012. Homer's Iliad is identified as 0012.001. The structure of each text is further identified by its particular citation. To use the same example, line 1 in book 1 in Homer's Iliad is 0012.001.1.1. The TLG Canon is a well-established standard used by all digital projects across the globe.

The Canon represents many years of research conducted by TLG staff members. A printed version of the Canon (Luci Berkowitz and Karl A. Squitier, Thesaurus Linguae Graecae Canon of Greek Authors and Works, 3rd edition, Oxford University Press) was published in 1990. The Online Canon, now edited by Project Director, Maria Pantelia, has grown substantially since the early 1990s, especially as the TLG expanded into the Byzantine period. The Online Canon database currently contains over 12,000 bibliographical records and is regularly updated to include new entries as they are added to the TLG® Digital Library

The TLG® Online Canon of Greek Authors and Works is available in open access. It is not behind the TLG subscribers' firewall.

Abstract The ancient sanctuary of Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games and of athletic competion in general, has been fascinating people from antiquity up to the present time. In the present volume, all inscriptions - large and small - published after Dittenberger's edition are collected, critically edited, translated into German, and commented. Complete Greek and Latin indices make the inscriptions easily accessible to all scholars interested in the ancient Olympic Games, in the history of religion and sports, and in classical studies in general.

Corpus of Attic Vase Inscriptions
Immerwahr, Henry R.

Pottery is a critical tool in our understanding of the society, art, and language of ancient Greece. Most vase painters who worked in Attica—the area of Greece surrounding Athens—were active during the sixth to fourth centuries BC. Their work was often inscribed either directly into the clay or by painting the surface. Henry Immerwahr's Corpus of Attic Vase Inscriptions is an attempt to catalog these inscribed vases. It contains 8,173 entries and is the result of more than sixty years of research. Each entry is given a local identifier and indicates which collection the vase belongs to (and the inventory number where possible). The entries then have four parts:

  • Section A documents the type of vase, place of discovery if known, painter or potter or both, date, and bibliography;
  • Section B contains a short description of the paintings;
  • Section C contains the inscriptions; and
  • Section D offers free commentary.
A significant number of the entries contain additional footnotes. No illustrations are provided. To learn more about the history of the corpus, read Immerwahr’s description of it. The material gathered in the corpus is the basis for an on-going project by Rudolf Wachter.

Online Internationale Keilschriftbibliographie (KeiBi)

KeiBi online: Die Keilschrift-Bibliographie im Netz
http://vergil.uni-tuebingen.de/keibi/assets/img/keibi.jpg

The International Keilschriftbibliographie (KeiBi) was first published by
the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome in the journal Orientalia in 1940
(Orientalia N.S. 9). It became an essential tool for the study, research,
and teaching of Ancient Near Eastern Studies. The search for entries,
though, proves quite cumbersome – a weakness that all bibliographies issued
over a substantial period of time share. To enable better access we hereby
present the KeiBi online Database, where all issues already published can be
searched simultaneously.

The KeiBi online is made possible with the support of the German Research
Foundation (DFG) within the project „Propylaeum“ – Virtual Library Classical
Studies. It was developed as part of the Propylaeum module Ancient Near
Eastern Studies at the University Library Tübingen, with the support of the
Institute of Ancient Near Eastern Studies (IANES), University of Tübingen.

Prof. Dr. Hans Neumann, in cooperation with the Institut für
Altorientalische Philologie und Vorderasiatische Altertumskunde, University
of Münster, provided the KeiBi entries from volume 57 (Orientalia N.S. 69,
1999) onwards. Earlier issues were scanned and digitally processed.

The KeiBi online is still under construction. Volumes are added in reverse
beginning with volume 67 (Orientalia N.S. 79, 2009). Due to copyright the
most recent two volumes are not included. After the issue of a new volume
the next to last issue will be added.

"Egypt, 4000 years ago, a land of strange rituals and savage cruelty..."
(trailer of The Mummy, 1959)
Welcome to the Ancient Egypt Film Site! This site offers an elaborate overview of motion pictures and tv movies that prominently feature Egyptology and ancient Egypt, its monuments or sites. Looking for those magnificent mummy films, or films featuring pyramids or Cleopatra? This is the site to visit!
More than 800 movies, television films and episodes from television series are featured here, with over 200 picture indexes giving impressions of the visual elements involved.
The film and television productions that qualify for mention on this site either have the story set in Ancient Egypt, set in modern times with flashbacks or travel back in time to Ancient Egypt, or in modern times have an ancient Egyptian object or person somehow influence the storyline in a minor or major degree.
The listings presented here were gathered on basis of careful research done on the Internet, in books and by watching and collecting many movies and tv films. Though I did everything possible to give a complete overview, some films or television episodes may still have escaped my attention. If there is anything missing that you think should be included, films, film news or film oddities, please let me know!

What is Iris?

Iris is the journal of the Classical Association of Victoria. The New Series of the journal was founded in 1988. The Journal Editor is Dr Rhiannon Evans of La Trobe University. The Honorary Secretary is Dr. K.O. Chong-Gossard, lecturer at the University of Melbourne. Iris is published with the support of the Muriel P. Blackwood Memorial Fund.

What is in Iris?

Independent in this context means independent of the author.
