Ancient Anatomies
The body is many things: for the Hippocratic physician it is the sum of its parts, diseases and pains; for the Byzantine emperor it is unity and beauty, a proof of divine spirit; for the Athenian slave it is his tools of labour and means of survival; for the Roman prostitute it is a commodity with a value.
This project seeks to explore the body through objects, investigating the material world which represented, interacted with, forced and fashioned the body in the Ancient world.
