The Michigan-Princeton-Alexandria Expeditions to Mount Sinai

This platform makes available for study, teaching, and research the vast collection of icons, manuscripts, and liturgical objects from the Monastery of Saint Catherine at Mount Sinai. The website brings together for the first time the photographic archives from the Michigan-Princeton-Alexandria Expeditions to Sinai in 1956, 1958, 1960, 1963, and 1965, now held in the Visual Resources Collections at Princeton University and the University of Michigan. The images display the scans of the 5 x 7 inch Ektachrome transparencies and the 35mm slides in color and black and white from the Sinai archives at both institutions. The recent efforts to bring together and make available the Sinai digital collection reflect a desire on the part of both Princeton and Michigan to encourage the study and research of this material among current and future students, teachers, scholars, and the wider public.
