Over 2,000 years ago, on the crossroads between East and West, stood the cities of ancient Syria. Kings and emperors conquered these places, but the citizens persisted. They celebrated. They voted. They worshipped. They resisted. They minted coins.

Enter SYRIOS: Studying Urban Relationships and Identity over Ancient Syria, a project that aims to bring ancient Syria to modern audiences through a study of coins.

This site is under development, but please explore our initial concepts and design for this interactive exhibit. Scroll down or click on one of the buttons to begin.

SYRIOS is a project of the University of Houston. We are supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities: Digital Projects for the Public and the Loeb Classical Library Foundation.
