Das Corpus Signorum Imperii Romani (CSIR) ist ein seit 1963 geführtes internationales Sammelwerk, das die flächendeckende Erfassung und Publikation römerzeitlicher Skulpturen zum Ziel hat. Es gehört damit zu den unverzichtbaren Grundlagenwerken für die Erforschung der historischen Zusammenhänge im Imperium Romanum. Das Territorium von Flavia Solva ist eines der letzten Gebiete der römischen Provinz Noricum, dessen Steindenkmäler noch nicht im CSIR erfasst sind. Der nun vorliegende erste Band des CSIR Flavia Solva enthält insgesamt 69 rundplastische Skulpturen aus diesem Stadtgebiet. Er spiegelt die gesamte Bandbreite provinzialrömischer Plastik wider, die von qualitätvollen Marmorplastiken bis zu einfachen Produkten lokaler Werkstätten reicht. Er erschließt das Kunstschaffen einer südnorischen Region, das durch charakteristische Formen der Grabplastik, wie etwa die zahlreichen Löwenaufsätze oder die Ikarusstatuetten geprägt ist.
The Corpus Signorum Imperii Romani (CSIR) is an international catalogue, which aims since 1963 to collect and publish sculpture all over the Roman Imperium. It belongs thus to the indispensable basics for the investigation of historical issues in the Imperium Romanum. The territory of Flavia Solva is one of the last regions in Roman Noricum not yet covered by CSIR. The present first volume of CSIR Flavia Solva contains 69 items found in the area of this Roman town. It reflects the whole variety of provincial Roman sculpture, containing marble pieces of high quality as well as plain local products. It reveals the art production of a region in southern Noricum, which shows characteristic forms of sepulcral sculpture as for example the numerous stelae copings with lions or the Icarus statuettes.
