http://chronique.efa.gr/app/webroot/img/title.gif

Archaeology in Greece Online combines the Chronique published annually in the BCH by the French School at Athens, and Archaeology in Greece published as part of the annual Archaeological Reports by the Society for the Promotion of Hellenic Studies and the British School at Athens (which continues to appear in print in a new review format).
The project is managed jointly by the French School at Athens and the British School at Athens: data processing is divided by region and reflects the traditions, history and research foci of the two schools. Texts are thus either in English or in French, but the search engine draws on the entire database regardless of language.
Η ιστοσελίδα Χρονικά των Ανασκαφών Onlineπροκύπτει από τη συνένωση  δύο προηγούμενων εκδοτικών εγχειρημάτων : τα Χρονικά των Ανασκαφώνπου δημοσιεύονται ετησίως από τη Γαλλική Σχολή Αθηνών στο BCH και τις Αρχαιολογικές Αναφορέςπου δημοσιεύονται από τη Society of the Promotion of Hellenic Studies και τη Βρετανική Σχολή Αθηνών.

Akkadian Prayer Miscellany
Alan Lenzi, University of the Pacific (Stockton, CA)
The Akkadian Prayer Miscellany is a place for me to post work I've done on a selection of Akkadian prayers. As the name suggests, the project contains a mixture of different kinds of prayers from different places and times. The one unifying element is that all of the texts are in Akkadian. As working on this site is not my top research priority (rather, see →here), additions will accumulate rather slowly.

The Tree-Ring Society was founded in 1935 by A.E. Douglass and several archaeological colleagues at the third Tree-Ring Conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Douglass and the new science of dendrochronology had recently won worldwide acclaim by providing precise dates for construction of many of the great pueblo villages of the southwestern US. The first issue of the TREE-RING BULLETIN was published the year before, and Douglass was elected as the first President of the new society dedicated to strengthening the fledging discipline of dendrochronology. During the following years, the Society maintained a very close relationship with the Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research at the University of Arizona in Tucson, founded by Douglass in 1937.

Dendrochronology today consists of numerous laboratories and individual scientists that benefit from a professional association that serves as a conduit for the latest news of the discipline and serves to promote tree-ring research to the larger scientific community. The membership of the Society is reflective of the global nature of contemporary tree-ring research.

Agora Picture Books

The primary purpose of the Agora Picture Book series is to enliven the experience of a visitor to the Athenian Agora, excavated by the American School since 1931. While drawing on the object and monuments that can be viewed on a visit to the site, these well-illustrated guides attempt to add some human color to the dry material remains. A number of the concise guides have become popular supplementary texts for undergraduate and graduate classes in classical civilization. Since 1998 the Picture Books have been published in color.

Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum

The Original Project

Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum is the oldest research project of the Union Académique Internationale.

The first meeting to organise the project was held in Paris in 1919.

Edmond Pottier (1855 -1934) initiated it and produced the first fascicule for the Louvre in 1922.

Pottier's role in developing CVA is the subject of "A corpus of ancient vases"in Revue Archéolgique 2004.

Pottier had become a curator in the Louvre in 1884, two years before all of its ancient pottery was incorporated into the Department of Oriental Antiquities.

When the Louvre purchased several thousand ancient vases from the Campana Collection it became the largest collection of ancient pottery in the world. Many types were represented, for example Proto-Elamitic pottery which Pottier had been the first to publish in 1912.
Pottier's vision of the types of pottery in CVA was broad - all ancient pottery from Europe, the Mediterranean, the Near East and the Middle East.

Pottier's vision of publishing every example of so many different types of ancient pottery was ambitious and not easily realised.

In 1956 it was suggested that Greek and related wares only should be published; these now dominate CVA. By 2004 more than 300 fascicules have been published by more than 120 collections in 26 countries.

CVA Online

In 2000 the International Committee of CVA asked the Beazley Archive to prepare a feasibility study for the digitisation of out of print fascicules, approximately 250 for the web. Later that year the Union Académique Internationale formally invited the Beazley Archive to undertake the project.

In 2001 The Getty Grant Program awarded £75,000 for a three-year project to be carried out in Oxford.

The CVA project, to digitise these fascicules began in 2002 and ended in September 2004. The project is on-going; new fascicules are being published and participating museums have the opportunity to contribute to the on-line database.

Contributing to World-Historical Gazetteer: a Preview
The World-Historical Gazetteer project (WHG) will soon begin aggregating and indexing historical gazetteer datasets, and exposing them as Linked Open Data via graphical and programmatic web interfaces — just as Pelagios Commons’ Peripleo project has done for a few years. And like Peripleo, WHG will also index contributions of annotation records that associate historical “items” with place identifiers. Typical items for Peripleo have included coins, coin hoards, and inscriptions of the Classical Mediterranean. Items records WHG will focus on include journey events, regions, and datasets. In fact, annotated items could be anything for which location is relevant, e.g. people and various types of events.
We are almost ready to begin accepting contributions; this post previews the pipeline and formats involved.
Contributions to WHG can include, in some combination: 1) gazetteer data, i.e. place records drawn from historical sources; 2) annotation records that associate a published record about an item with a place identifier; 3) collections of item metadata records referenced in annotations; and 4) a file describing the contributed dataset(s) in Vocabulary of Interlinked Datasets” format (VoID).
Over the past several weeks we have collaboratively developed a new Linked Places format (LPF here for short) with Rainer Simon of Pelagios, to be used for contributions of historical place data to both WHG and Pelagios’ Peripleo. The Linked Places format is designed around the JSON-LD syntax of RDF (it is also valid GeoJSON, with temporal extensions, as explained in the GitHub README). The new format makes use of several existing vocabularies and also introduces some terms specific to our shared purposes.
Several expert colleagues contributed valuable input, including Graham Klyne, Richard Light, Lex Berman, Arno Bosse, and Rob Sanderson [1]. We are in the process of updating the template Peripleo has used for annotation contributions (formerly Open Annotation in RDF Turtle, now its next-generation W3C Web Annotation in JSON-LD). Both are discussed in a little more detail below.

Contributing historical place records

There will be two separate workflows for contributions: from larger projects and from smaller ones. The distinction is whether a project has the capability and resources to meet two criteria which are accepted norms for publishing Linked Data: 1) publishing data in some syntax of RDF (in our case the new LPF); and 2) providing a unique URI and associated “landing page” for each resource described.

CASE 1: LARGER PROJECTS

If your project has (or will have) a web presence that provides public pages describing your individual places and/or “items”, (routes, regions, etc.), then we ask that you perform a transformation and export of your data in the standard formats mentioned above – Linked Places, a future annotation format (see Contributing Annotations below), and VoIF. Upon validation, we will ingest those records, link them with those already in the system, and expose them in a nice GUI and API. Details of WHG interfaces are forthcoming soon.

CASE 2: SMALLER PROJECTS

If your project does not entail creating a web site providing per-record landing pages, then we can accept your data contribution as CSV, mint unique URIs, and provide very basic landing pages for places and other items. The records will also be made available as JSON-LD (bonafide RDF) via our API. We will provide a Python program for converting CSV to LPF, but note that the CSV will have to conform to a template that aligns with LPF (available soon). Conversion from your native format to our CSV template will probably be more manageable than to LPF. In other words, upon submitting CSV data we can parse, a semi-automated conversion and ingest procedure will result their publication as Linked Open Data.

Contributing annotations

WHG will index metadata describing historical “items” annotated with gazetteer record identifiers. These annotation records assert, in effect: “this item is/was associated with this place, in this way;” and optionally, “at this time.”
The result of such annotations can be seen in the current Peripleo interface, where upon navigating to a given place, you can view metadata (including images) for coins and inscriptions associated with it in e.g. a foundAt or hasLocation relation. Annotations exposed in the WHG web interface will include historical journeys for which the given place was a waypoint, and regions, works, and datasets including or referring to the place.
Annotation contributions will comprise two sets of data: 1) collections of brief Item metadata records; and 2) collections of annotation records in W3C Web Annotation format. The contribution template in use by Pelagios’ Peripleo now is currently being updated to better account for typing of items and relations. Details of that new Linked Places annotation format (LPAF?) will be published soon. Collaborators in that modeling effort are most welcome!

Keywords in Augustine's Letters (KAL)
Nunn, Christopher Alexander, 2018, "Keywords in Augustine's Letters (KAL)", https://doi.org/10.11588/data/R5RAXO, heiDATA, V1
252 latin letters, based on the CAG Online, were lemmatized with the aid of the TreeTagger and the Latin parameter files of Gabriele Brandolini. Afterwards, Lemmatization errors were corrected manually. With Wordsmith 7.0, I extracted key words out of the lemmas automatically. The results were exported in MS Excel where I added an Index and modified the design to provide it more user-friendly. Furthermore, I created a register, which makes it easier to compare parallels of the key words in the letters of Augustine. They are sorted by frequency or alphabet. It provides useful additional information for everyone who wants to study style or content of Augustine's letters.
